Model Katie Price has revealed that she has taken the ‘heartbreaking’ decision to put eldest son Harvey Daniel in to full time care to ensure he gets the right help he needs in regards to his health and disabilities. The 18 year-old son has Prader Willi Syndrome — which means he can gain weight quickly, and sometimes excessively, due to always feeling hungry. He is also on the autistic spectrum and has suffered from Sept-Optic Dysplasia — a condition which has left him partially blind since birth.
The 42 year-old has spent the last 6 months researching and visiting numerous facilities that cater for her son’s needs and learning difficulties and is hopeful he will be able to start at his top choice later this year. She is hoping the move will be a positive one for Harvey, where he will live until the age of 25, be able to live more independently and learn new life skills.
It’s so upsetting to think I won’t see him every day but this is the best thing for Harvey and we have to think positively because I don’t want him to think I’m just getting rid of him.
But despite coming to this decision the mum-of-five is still struggling to come to terms with it due to the ‘incredible bond’ she has with her son.
‘I need to learn to let go but it’s tough – anyone in my position knows how hard it is. We have an incredible bond. I don’t know how Harvey will react or how he’ll feel when I can’t get to him. It’s too painful to think about.
Katie is also mum to son’s Junior Savva, 15, Princess Tiaamii Crystal Esther, 13, Jett Riviera, 7, and Bunny, 6
